Wall Shelves
Put together with spare wood found in the attic, these shelves were designed to look at whether the typical under-shelf support could be avoided, whilst allowing the outwards-facing ends to be open.
The vertical supports were spaced to fix to the wall studs. Notches were cut into the supports, matching the thickness of the shelf, which supports the shelves on both axis. Tapered aluminium wedges were made on the milling machine and lightly hammered into the notches to secure the shelves.
The only screws used in the construction are to fix the vertical supports to the wall. These screws are hidden in the notches, and therefore no screw heads are visible on the assembled shelves.
