Miniature Saw Bench

After completing the gearbox for the Mamod steam engine, the next project was to make a miniature saw bench that could be powered by the Mamod’s output shaft.

Inspired by examples seen at vintage rallies, this model was designed to imitate the cast iron construction and visible belt pulleys of the full-size versions. The model’s body was milled from aluminium plate, with the bench top made from rusted steel stock. The rust was brushed off only, to give a weathered effect.

The bearing for the blade is a simple brass bushing pressed into a steel block, with a hole drilled to the internal shaft for oiling. The blade is a repurposed slitting saw.
